Zakat calculator

Work out your zakat without the spreadsheet

Add what you own, subtract what you owe, and Prayr does the arithmetic against the current nisab. Gold and silver prices are fetched live, so the threshold you are measured against is today's, not last year's.

How it works

Three passes and you have a number

  1. 01

    Add what you own

Cash in hand and in the bank, gold and silver by weight, business stock, money owed to you, and investments.

  2. 02

    Subtract what you owe

Immediate debts and liabilities come off the total, so you are paying on what is actually yours.

  3. 03

    Check the nisab

Prayr compares your net figure against the current gold and silver nisab and tells you whether zakat is due, and how much.

Live prices

Today's gold price, not a hard-coded one

The nisab is defined by weight of gold or silver, which means it moves with the market. A calculator using last year's price gives you the wrong threshold. Prayr pulls current prices when you are online.

  • Gold and silver prices fetched live
  • Nisab shown in your own currency
  • Choose the gold or the silver nisab, whichever your scholar advises
  • Every figure you enter is shown in the running total, so nothing is hidden

A note on scope

This is a calculator, not a fatwa

Zakat has genuine differences of opinion inside it — whether to use the gold or silver nisab, how to treat a pension you cannot access, what counts as an immediate liability. Those are questions for a scholar who knows your situation, not for an app.

What Prayr does is the part that is arithmetic: holding your figures, applying today's prices, and working out 2.5% of what is left. It shows you every input it used so you can check the reasoning, or hand it to someone who can.

If your situation is complicated — a business, property held for resale, debts spread over years — use this to get organised, then take the numbers to someone qualified.

Questions

Asked often

Still stuck? Message us on X or email us. A person answers.

Is the zakat calculator free?

Yes, completely and permanently, and it works without an account. There is no step where a total is calculated and then hidden behind a payment.

Which nisab does it use — gold or silver?

You choose. The silver nisab is lower, so it makes zakat due on smaller holdings; some scholars prefer it for that reason. Prayr shows both thresholds and calculates against the one you pick.

How is the gold price worked out?

Live market prices are fetched when you are online, and converted to your currency. The price used is shown on screen so you can see what the calculation is based on.

Are my figures stored anywhere?

Your entries stay on your device unless you are signed in and choose to save them. Nothing about your wealth is sent anywhere as a condition of using the calculator.

Can I use it for business zakat?

You can enter business stock and money owed to you, which covers the common cases. Anything more structured than that is worth checking with a scholar rather than an app.
